Therapy Techniques
COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL
CBT is a treatment that authorizes the individual to challenge their perceptions and use rationalization and awareness to adjust their ways of handling difficult situations. Identifying the connection between thoughts, behaviors, and emotions helps to recognize harmful patterns and learn new ways of coping.
MINDFULNESS
Another form of Cognitive Therapy, Mindfulness equips the individual with an open and non-judgmental attitude through exercises like meditation, breathing techniques, and yoga. It encourages the awareness of negative thoughts and how to break away from them in stressful and overwhelming situations.
CHOICE THEORY
Choice Theory is based on the notion that all actions are a choice that we make to meet one of our five basic needs: survival, love & belonging, freedom, fun or power. In this form of therapy, we focus on the present and envision the ideal future through a series of controlled choices that will get us there.
DIALECTAL BEHAVIORAL
DBT focuses on developing skills in four key areas, helping to manage painful thoughts and emotions and improve relationships with others. These areas include: mindfulness and the ability to be present, stress tolerance, emotion regulation and effective interpersonal communication.
